Joanne Oppenheim, D.D.S.
After graduating from the University Of Illinois
College Of Dentistry in 1989, Dr. Joanne Oppenheim completed a one
year general practice residency at Illinois Masonic Medical Center
in Chicago. At IMMC, Dr. Joanne training focused on working with
medically compromised patients as well as trauma. In 1994, Dr.
Joanne received her specialty license in Pediatric Dentistry from
the University of Illinois.
During the second year of Dr. Joanne’s pediatric residency, Dr.
Joanne and her husband, Ken Kromash, D.D.S., had their first child
Benjamin. Shortly after graduation, Dr. Joanne joined the PDHA
family, had a second child, Jacqueline and became partners with Dr.
Mary Hayes.
Dr. Joanne is a past president of the Illinois Society of Pediatric
Dentistry. She is an active member of the Chicago Dental Society,
the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and the American
Academy of Pediatrics.
Dr. Joanne has walked in the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 3Day and
the Y-me walks. When she is not at the dental office she talks
with pediatricians, elementary and preschool children about dental
health. She also enjoys spending time with her family, either on
the soccer or baseball field, or at the beach! Summer is by far her
favorite time of the year!

Mary J. Hayes, D.D.S., M.S.
Dr. Mary J. Hayes is a specialist in pediatric dentistry and is a
Diplomat and Fellow if the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
Along with her private practice on North Michigan Avenue, Dr. Hayes
holds hospital privileges at Children’s Memorial Hospital and Rush
Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital in Chicago. At Rush St. Luke’s
Hospital, Dr. Hayes participates in the Rush Comprehensive
Hemophilia Clinic. Her practice emphasizes prevention of dental
disease as a means to achieving oral health and special interests
include children with emotional and behavioral issues.
Dr. Hayes lectures often at Rush Medical College, state dental
societies and the University Of Illinois College Of Dentistry on
treating children/patients with physical and mental handicaps and
also on the interface of dentistry and the law. From 1990 to 1999,
Dr. Hayes was a member of the Illinois State Dental Board, serving
as chair 1992-1994.
Dr. Hayes is a spokesperson for the American Dental Association, the
American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the Chicago Dental
Society. In this capacity, she has had many radio and television
appearances including the Oprah show. For the ADA, she has provided
the office facility for video news releases. Dr. Hayes has been
consulted as an expert for the print media with articles appearing
in the Chicago Sun Times, Working Woman, Parents and Parenting among
others.
In the community, Dr. Hayes is Chair of the Board of Tuesday’s
Child, an agency that provides parent training for spirited
children, teaching appropriate limit setting and discipline. She
also has been active in the Infant Welfare League Society of Chicago
for many years.
Additional professional memberships and interests include the
American Academy of Dentistry for the Handicapped, the American
Society of Dentistry for Children and the American Association of
Women Dentists. She has been honored to be the recipient of many
award and prizes throughout her career, including the 2000 Cushing
Award of the Chicago Dental Society, recognizing her media work for
oral health education.
Marilia Montero, D.D.S.
Dr. Marilia Montero joined our practice as an associate pediatric
dentist in 2001. She is fluent is Spanish and Portuguese and loves
traveling, reading and spending time with her toddler daughter,
Lila, and teenage son, Nagi.
Dr. Montero completed her Pediatric Residency at the University of
Connecticut in Farmington in addition to a one year fellowship in
Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Illinois in Chicago. She
also spent two years in a General Dentistry Residency at Eastman
Dental Center and one year in General Practice Residency at the
University of Rochester in New York.
In 2000, Dr. Montero received her Pediatric Dental Specialty License
and adopted Chicago as her new home. She holds the position of
clinical associate professor at the University of Illinois,
Department of Pediatric Dentistry. In 2006, Dr. Montero became a
Diplomat of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
Dr. Montero is currently a member of the American Dental
Association, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Illinois
Society of Pediatric Dentistry and the Chicago Dental Society.
